New to our range is the BuMpY Brush specially created to meet the demand for a brush to clean algae, moss and other stubborn dirt from garden decking and other uneven surfaces. This brush features a brass coated steel wire and rigid polypropylene mix with a special staggered trim length – this allows the longer wire to clean inside the grooves and the polypropylene bristles to brush the surface.

Anvil sponsors Land Speed Record Attempt…

The Anvil Tool Company are pleased to be the official tool sponsor to SplinterBike, a project attempting a land speed record using a bicycle made entirely out of wood.

The finished Splinter Bike...

The finished Splinter Bike...

Splinter Bike is the brainchild of creator Michael Thompson a joiner based in Potter Heigham in Norfolk.

The idea came about after a £1 bet between Michael and his friend James Tully after watching the Tour of Britain pass through the town. James decided to challenge Michael’s claim that he “could make anything from wood” and gave him the task to create a 100% wooden bicycle. The challenge was set…

It has taken around 1000 hours to design and construct but SplinterBike is now complete. Many difficulties have been overcome such as replacing metal bearings with a naturally oily wooden substitute (Lignum Vitae) and creating a cog system (pliCog) that replaces the normal metal chain.

The pair have now stepped up the challenge, James has agreed to put it through its paces and attempt a land speed record… The search is on for a suitable venue and money is being raised through donations with the hope of raising money for Michael’s chosen charity Shelterbox along the way.

The race is on to complete the challenge as the Victoria & Albert Museum wants the Splinter Bike to be included in an exhibition called “Power of Making” which will be starting in September 2011.

Good Luck Boys…
